Crypto Market Sees $4B USDT Withdrawal and Slumping Futures Volumes
Tether's [USDT] supply has seen a significant decline in recent weeks, raising questions about investor sentiment in the crypto market.
According to data from CryptoQuant, USDT's 60-day market cap change has fallen by around $4 billion, with the decline speeding up in recent weeks. This is one of the worst contractions in recent years, and some are interpreting it as a sign that investors are leaving the crypto market altogether.
Stacy Muur, an analyst, believes that the decline could mean investors are converting their stablecoins back into fiat currency, making these assets less attractive to investors. This is supported by changes in stablecoin yields, which may be contributing to the decline.
In addition to the USDT decline, futures trading numbers have also fallen significantly across major exchanges. Binance's monthly Futures volume dropped from $2.55 trillion in July 2025 to $1.40 trillion in July 2026, while OKX's figures fell to about $447 billion from more than $1 trillion at its peak.
This implies that traders may be becoming less active in the market, leading to thinner liquidity and making Bitcoin more sensitive to relatively small buying or selling flows.
