Crypto Market Shrugs Off Interest Rate Decisions as Bitcoin Remains Resilient
The crypto market remained surprisingly calm in the face of recent interest rate decisions. Bitcoin's price reacted little to the outcome, which is a stark contrast to the turmoil seen in traditional markets.
One notable exception was the failure of the CLARITY Act, which provided temporary protection against declines triggered by other news and helped Bitcoin withstand the strengthening dollar. The bill's rejection led to a significant outflow from US spot Bitcoin ETFs, with over $450 million leaving these funds since June 25.
Following the vote, regulatory responsibilities will now shift to the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Bernstein expects this change to accelerate development of regulations for native tokens, decentralized finance (DeFi), and tokenized shares. The aggregate mining output of public Bitcoin miners fell below their break-even point in the second quarter, with an average cost of mining 1 BTC standing at around $75.5K.
However, one major player, MARA Holdings, continues to increase its crypto reserves. The company purchased an additional 1,292 bitcoins at an average price of $76.3K per coin, bringing its total holdings to 35,577 BTC. This makes MARA Holdings one of the world's largest publicly listed corporate holders of Bitcoin.
