Crypto Market Surges as CFTC Submits Regulatory Proposal
Cryptocurrencies have rallied across the board today, with Bitcoin breaking above the $80,000 mark after rising 6% in value. Ethereum and Ripple also saw significant gains, increasing by 5.62% to $2,587 and 7% to $1.38, respectively.
The market is attributing this surge to regulatory progress, specifically a new proposal submitted by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) for crypto asset trading and markets to the White House for review. This move comes after a digital asset bill failed to advance in the Senate earlier this week.
The CFTC's proposal is currently in the 'prerule' stage, meaning it has not yet been formally issued with proposed rules. The process involves public comment periods and effective dates that remain undetermined. Regulators are using existing authority to construct a regulatory framework for trading, clearing, and market oversight.
