Crypto Market Surges to $2.32 Trillion as Bitcoin and Ethereum Lead Rally
The crypto market has surged by 5.21% to $2.32 trillion in just 24 hours, with Bitcoin and Ethereum leading the charge. BTC has climbed 4% to $68,959.89, while ETH is up 8% to over $2,100. The rally also includes gains from other assets like Ripple's XRP, SOL, and BNB.
The SEC's proposed framework for regulating crypto assets is a major catalyst behind the surge. The proposal would create two fundraising exemptions and provide a conditional safe harbor that could allow qualifying crypto assets to move out of securities treatment under specific conditions.
Renewed institutional demand is also driving the rally, with U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recording $189.3 million in net inflows on August 18. This influx of capital has helped push BTC above $67,000 and ETH's price up by 8%.
Lower bond yields and a weaker dollar are also contributing to the rally, as Treasury buybacks have pushed long-term yields lower. Additionally, short liquidations have added fuel to the move, with around $56 million in BTC shorts liquidated on August 18.
