Crypto Market Valuation Plummets $2T Amid Leverage and Liquidity Concerns
The crypto market has lost approximately $2 trillion in value over the past period, with its combined valuation now near $1.91 trillion. This decline is largely due to a reduction in liquidity within the sector.
Stablecoins, which act as a kind of 'dry powder' for the crypto market, have also seen their supply dwindle. Over the past three months, the stablecoin market capitalization has fallen by around $16 billion, reaching near $302 billion at press time. This decrease suggests that investors are holding less capital in reserve for potential risk assets.
Rising leverage within the derivatives markets could potentially mask weak demand, making a lasting recovery more challenging to achieve. According to CoinGlass data, liquidations totaled roughly $1.046 billion across long and short positions between August 1st and 5th, with most losses occurring between August 2nd and 5th.
