Crypto Market Value Drops $2.1T Amid $100B Decline in Onchain Activity
The crypto market experienced a significant decline in value over the past year, contracting by approximately $2.1 trillion to June 30.
Despite this massive loss, attributable onchain activity only decreased by 1.6%, according to Chainalysis' 2026 Global Crypto Adoption Index.
The report highlights that the decline in market capitalization was due to a reduction in asset prices, rather than an outflow of funds from the crypto ecosystem.
In fact, dollar-linked stablecoins continued to move between wallets, businesses, and countries without losing value when Bitcoin and other volatile assets fell.
The report also notes that cross-border stablecoin flows increased nearly 78%, with the average transfer size remaining below $1 million, indicating that these transactions were more likely for supplier payments, remittances, or people moving savings away from unstable local currencies.
