Crypto Markets Plunge Ahead of CLARITY Act Vote
The cryptocurrency market is experiencing a downturn, with Bitcoin plummeting to $76,426.03, a 2.9% drop over the past 24 hours. Ethereum has also taken a hit, falling below $2,500 to $2,423.76, down 3.8%. XRP has slipped to $1.40.
The decline in prices comes ahead of today's critical Senate vote on the CLARITY Act, which aims to provide greater transparency and accountability for cryptocurrencies. The bill has been met with resistance from Republicans, who have rejected a Democratic counteroffer on ethics provisions.
Senator Cynthia Lummis's spokesperson stated that the Democratic counterproposal 'looks identical to their opening position at the start of recess,' indicating little movement ahead of today's vote. Despite this, some traders believe that the drop in prices may be a pre-vote positioning strategy rather than a lasting trend.
