Crypto Markets Poised for October Surge with Ethereum Testnet and ETF Flows
As the third quarter comes to a close, cryptocurrency markets are poised for further growth in October, with several key catalysts on the horizon. Bitcoin, Ethereum, and XRP have all gained significant ground in the past month, with Bitcoin rising about 7% and Ethereum increasing by roughly 7% as well. Solana has also outperformed Bitcoin, with several large-cap altcoins gaining as Bitcoin's dominance slipped below 60%.
Institutional demand has been a major factor in the recent gains, with U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs attracting approximately $2.4 billion during the week ending September 25, their strongest weekly inflow since October 2025. Ethereum's upcoming Glamsterdam testnet, scheduled for October 6, is also expected to provide a significant catalyst for the market. The testnet will allow developers to test the network's new features and make any necessary adjustments before the actual upgrade.
While the market is cautiously optimistic, there are also potential headwinds to consider, including elevated bond yields and monetary-policy uncertainty. JPMorgan analysts have identified approximately $85,000 as a reference point for Bitcoin's average production cost, and the relationship between Bitcoin's market price and production costs is particularly relevant to miners.
