Crypto Markets Redefine Traditional Trading Hours
The traditional concept of market hours is being challenged by the growing adoption of around-the-clock trading. According to data from the New York Stock Exchange, US equities trade for only 32.5% of the week's 168 hours, leaving a significant gap in the market.
This gap is not just limited to traditional markets; even the most-traded asset class in the world, foreign exchange (FX), has abandoned the concept of market hours decades ago and trades around the clock with no bell or auction. The Bank for International Settlements reports that FX trades approximately $9.5 trillion per day.
Crypto, on the other hand, has solved this problem by removing the need for a closing bell. OKX's user base spans every time zone, allowing the exchange to stay active outside market hours in all geographies.
