Crypto Markets Slide Amid Oil Price Worries and SEC Regulatory Hopes
Crypto markets took a hit on August 11 as traders grew cautious ahead of tomorrow's inflation data and monitored rising oil prices. The global cryptocurrency market cap slipped 0.5% to $2.26 trillion, with Bitcoin (BTC) falling 0.6% to $63,685.99.
The recent hack of Coldcard, which saw thieves steal coins from cold wallets, has boosted inflows to crypto ETFs as investors seek alternative ways to safeguard their digital assets. Spot Bitcoin ETFs use custodians to protect funds, meaning individual investors aren't responsible for securing their Bitcoin.
Lawmakers have yet to pass the Clarity Act, which was expected to provide clear rules and definitions on how digital assets would be regulated. However, news that the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) may step in with a viable alternative could be crucial for investors. A clear framework, whether it comes from the government or the SEC, could improve sentiment and help pull crypto out of its slump.
