Crypto Mom Hester Peirce Resigns from SEC Commission
SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce has announced her resignation from the agency effective October 2. This move leaves the SEC with only two members, Chairman Paul Atkins and Commissioner Mark Uyeda.
Pierce, known as the 'Crypto Mom' among digital-asset advocates, joined the SEC in 2018 and has been a vocal advocate for clearer cryptocurrency rules. She is set to join Regent University School of Law as an associate professor in November.
The resignation comes at a time when the SEC and Commodity Futures Trading Commission issued an interpretation effective March 23 covering crypto assets, protocol staking, liquid staking, and staking receipt tokens. The interpretation noted that qualifying staking activities and certain staking receipt tokens do not involve securities offerings under the circumstances described.
