Crypto Mom Hester Peirce Steps Down From SEC

Hester Peirce, known as 'Crypto Mom', has officially stepped down from her position at the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), effective October 2, 2026. She will remain in her role until then.

Peirce served as a commissioner of the SEC since January 2018, with her original term set to expire in 2025. However, she extended her service for an additional holdover period of up to 18 months while committee transitions were coordinated.

Institutional transition and academic plans are underway. Peirce is joining Regent University School of Law's faculty as an associate professor in November 2026. Her teaching responsibilities will begin then, marking a significant shift from her regulatory role at the SEC.
