Crypto Mom Peirce Exits SEC Amid Leadership Concerns

Hester Peirce, known for her pro-crypto views and dubbed 'Crypto Mom', is leaving the SEC on October 2. She will join Regent University School of Law as an associate professor in November, citing a desire to shift from public policy to academia. In her resignation letter, dated September 21, Peirce thanked President Trump for allowing her to serve at the SEC and called it 'the honor' of her professional lifetime.

Peirce has been a vocal critic of the SEC's enforcement-first approach to crypto regulation, advocating for clear rules that foster market innovation. She clashed with Chairman Gary Gensler over the institution's policy, calling out the use of enforcement actions as an inefficient and unfair way to regulate emerging industries.

The departure leaves the SEC with only two active commissioners, Chairman Paul S. Atkins and Commissioner Mark T. Uyeda, amidst leadership vacancies at the agency.
