Crypto Mom Peirce Exits SEC Post Amid Shift in Crypto Regulation
SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce is leaving her post on October 2. She submitted her formal resignation, citing the 'honor of her professional lifetime' serving as a commissioner. Peirce, known for her advocacy of clear rules-based regulation in the crypto industry, served on the commission for about eight years.
She will join Regent University's law school as an associate professor in November, where she will focus on federal litigation, securities regulation, and digital assets. Her term at the SEC officially expired in June 2025, but commissioners may continue to serve up to approximately 18 months after terms expire if they are not replaced before then.
Peirce's departure may leave a vacant seat that won't be filled immediately. Since President Donald Trump took office in January 2025, the SEC has taken a more lenient approach to crypto regulation and enforcement, dropping several enforcement actions and investigations into crypto companies.
