Crypto Mom's Exit Leaves SEC Without Key Ally
Hester Peirce's tenure at the SEC is coming to an end. The commissioner, affectionately known as 'Crypto Mom,' will be leaving her position on Friday, according to her resignation letter to President Trump.
Pierce has been a strong advocate for the crypto industry since taking office in 2018. She urged the Securities and Exchange Commission to provide clear regulatory roadmaps for digital assets instead of regulating through enforcement, and publicly criticized her own agency's early rejections of spot Bitcoin ETFs.
Her departure coincides with the recent failure of the CLARITY Act, which aimed to provide a regulatory framework for digital assets. The SEC has made it clear that they will offer guidance where possible without Congressional buy-in, most recently via a five-year exemption allowing trading venues to offer tokenized stocks.
