Crypto Payments Gain Traction Amid Soaring Summer Travel Costs

Share

Despite a slight easing in overall inflation, travelers planning summer vacations in 2026 are feeling the pinch. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for June 2026 showed a modest slowdown to 332.568 from May's 333.979.

U.S. domestic airfares have soared 26.5% year-over-year, North American hotel prices have climbed 64% compared to 2019, and motor fuel prices have jumped 40.9% year-over-year as of August 8, 2026.

This divergence highlights how headline inflation metrics can mask sector-specific cost pressures. Michael Boult, SVP and Chief Commercial Officer of ALTOUR, noted that while some energy-related inflation pressures are easing, elevated fuel costs are expected to persist through the year.
