Crypto Platforms Converge with Wall Street as Tokenization Gains Traction
Crypto and traditional financial platforms are rapidly converging, blurring the lines between cryptocurrency trading and stock brokerage accounts.
Coinbase is leading the charge, moving beyond spot crypto to offer derivatives, prediction markets, stablecoin payments, tokenized assets, equity-linked products, and potentially single-stock perpetual futures.
The platform has filed with the CFTC to offer perpetual futures on around 50-60 US stocks, including Apple, Microsoft, Tesla, and Nvidia, which would be the first time this is done on a regulated US venue.
Coinbase's Q2 results show significant diversification, with prediction market revenue more than doubling quarter-on-quarter, while average USDC balances reached $20 billion.
