Crypto Rebound Continues: Bitcoin and Ethereum Surpass Chip Stocks in July
Bitcoin and Ethereum have outperformed major asset classes in July, despite enduring a tough first half of this year. According to data from CoinGlass, Ethereum gained 19.5% during the month, while Bitcoin rose by 7.37%. In contrast, chip stocks plummeted 22% over the same period, with the Nasdaq 100 and Russell 2000 slipping by 9% and 3%, respectively. The S&P 500 also fell, but its decline was much smaller at about 1%.
Bitcoin's gains are particularly noteworthy given its rough start to the year. It fell more than 10% in January and continued a downward trend that began in October 2025. However, it has since recovered, starting July trading near $58,000 before hitting a monthly high of nearly $67,000 last week.
Ethereum's performance was also impressive, rising from around $1,500 at the beginning of the month to almost $2,000 by its end. Despite this strong showing, Ethereum is still more than 50% lower than its value a year ago and about 61% away from its August 2025 all-time high.
While July brought relief for crypto investors, analysts are divided on what comes next. Some expect another decline before a broader recovery begins in 2027, while others forecast that Bitcoin's bear market could last until October.
