Crypto Regulators Gear Up as CFTC Panel and SEC Framework Take Shape
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse recently joined the inaugural Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Innovation Advisory Committee, touting it as 'the Olympic roster of crypto.'
The committee brings together traditional finance giants and industry leaders to shape regulatory frameworks for digital assets. Members include Nasdaq, New York Stock Exchange, Cboe Global Markets, the Options Clearing Corporation, and the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation.
Garlinghouse credited the Trump administration, CFTC Acting Chairman Michael Selig, and 'a myriad of bold leaders in Congress' for bringing the industry closer to clear regulation than at any point since 2019. He emphasized that attendees agreed 'rules written for a different era aren't good enough' for consumers, businesses, or innovation.
The CFTC's efforts are part of a broader push towards regulation, with the White House crypto adviser Patrick Witt stating agencies are 'locked and loaded' to act if the CLARITY Act fails. The SEC has also proposed its first-ever crypto securities framework, with Chairman Paul Atkins saying the work is 'too important' to wait for legislation.
