Crypto exchange spot volume saw a significant rebound in September, surging 36.5% from August to reach $696.7 billion across 14 major exchanges. The previous month's total was $510.4 billion. According to WuBlockchain data, every exchange on the list reported growth, indicating a broad-based recovery in trading activity.
The increase was not limited to a few platforms; all 14 exchanges recorded higher spot trading volumes. Uniswap led the gains with an 88.9% rise to $37.6 billion, followed by Upbit at 81.6% to $19.0 billion, and Bitfinex with an 112.5% jump to $13.8 billion. Despite these impressive percentage increases, market leadership depends on starting volumes as well.
Binance maintained its dominant position, generating $307.8 billion in September spot volume, which equated to a 44.2% market share. OKX and Coinbase followed with $65.8 billion and $61.3 billion, respectively. Together, the top three exchanges accounted for 62.4% of total volume, though this was a slight decrease from 64.8% in August. Coinbase and OKX both outperformed the overall market growth rate, with increases of 49.8% and 40.3%, respectively.
While September's data indicates a clear rebound in spot trading activity, it remains uncertain whether this momentum will persist. The numbers suggest a broader trading recovery, but one month of growth does not confirm a sustained trend. Binance retained its top spot, while competitors gained market share, setting the stage for October's performance.
