Crypto Super PAC Backs Virginia Incumbents Cline and Subramanyam
A cryptocurrency super PAC is allocating funds to support 32 U.S. House candidates in the 2026 midterms, including two Virginia incumbents from different parties. Fairshake and its affiliated super PACs are backing Republican Ben Cline from the Sixth District and Democrat Suhas Subramanyam from the 10th District.
Subramanyam’s district, located in Northern Virginia suburbs, is rated as solidly Democratic by the Cook Political Report. He won his seat in 2024 by 4.6 points, while Abigail Spanberger took the 10th District in 2025 by 20.5 points. Meanwhile, Cline’s Sixth District is considered a safe Republican stronghold, with GOP candidates winning every election there since 1992.
Fairshake, which receives funding from Coinbase, Ripple, and Andreessen Horowitz, ended August with over $120 million in its three super PACs. The group’s spokesperson, Geoff Vetter, emphasized that Fairshake supports pro-crypto candidates from both parties. However, Beth Macy, Cline’s Democratic challenger, criticized the infusion of crypto money into his campaign, calling it a 'pay-to-play scheme.' She noted that Cline voted for the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, which would have given regulatory oversight of crypto to the Justice Department.
Macy has outraised Cline by nearly a quarter of a million dollars, making her a financially viable opponent despite his district’s Republican leanings. In contrast, Subramanyam faces minimal opposition from Republican Dave Beckwith, who has raised just over $100,000 for his campaign.
