Crypto Surges Past AI Stocks as Bitcoin and Ethereum Soar
Crypto markets have shown impressive growth over the past 50 days, outperforming AI and traditional stocks. According to recent data, Bitcoin rose by 31.60% while Ethereum surged by 53.50%. In comparison, the S&P 500 gained only 2.26%, with the Nasdaq barely moving at 0.22%. The strong performance of crypto markets can be attributed to several factors, including the growing adoption of US spot Bitcoin ETFs and renewed market momentum for Bitcoin, Ethereum, and broader DeFi.
The latest 50-day performance comparison shows a significant shift in momentum away from AI stocks. For much of the recent market cycle, technology stocks were among Wall Street's hottest sectors, with investors betting on heavy spending on AI leading to higher profits and better productivity. However, the current data suggests that crypto markets are gaining traction.
The influx of funds into US spot Bitcoin ETFs is also a contributing factor to the strong performance of crypto markets. Between August 17 and 20, these ETFs pulled in approximately $1.6 billion. This significant influx of capital has helped drive up the price of Bitcoin, which is now approaching the $80,000 area after rising roughly 30% from its recent low near $60,000.
