Crypto Trading Volume Hits Year's Lowest at $15 Billion
The cryptocurrency market has seen a significant decline in spot trading volume over the past few months. According to a report by KobeissiLetter, average daily trading volume across 44 spot cryptocurrency exchanges fell to about $15 billion last week, marking the lowest level this year. This represents a drop of about 70% from its January peak and is also down about 50% since December last year.
The decline in trading volume has been persistent over a longer period as well. Since February, when daily volume topped $100 billion on two occasions, trading has shrunk sharply. The majority of the remaining spot volume is concentrated among a small group of large exchanges, with more than 60% coming from the top six platforms.
KobeissiLetter also noted that liquidity in the cryptocurrency market is drying up quickly. This decline in trading activity could have significant implications for the overall health of the market.
