Crypto Use Resilient Despite Market Decline: Chainalysis Report
A recent report from Chainalysis has shed light on the crypto market's resilience in the face of a significant decline in value. Despite the total market capitalization of crypto assets plummeting by $2.1 trillion, or 50%, to approximately $10.4 trillion over the past year, measured economic activity fell by only 1.6%. This divergence between prices and use is highlighted by the report's findings.
The measured global crypto activity totaled around $9.4 trillion in the 12-month period ending June 30, 2026, a decline of just 1.6% compared to the previous period's level of approximately $9.5 trillion. This suggests that while the market's value decreased significantly, users continued to engage with cryptocurrencies.
Interestingly, two types of transfers showed significant growth despite the overall decline in crypto activity. Peer-to-peer (P2P) transfers between people in the same country rose 302.9% to $228.7 billion, while cross-border stablecoin flows grew by 77.5%, rising from $124.2 billion to $220.3 billion.
Stablecoin balances also resisted the decline, remaining in the range of $98 billion to $109 billion during this period. This stability suggests that users are utilizing cryptocurrencies for everyday needs such as sending money to family or paying suppliers.
