Crypto Wallet Security Shifts from Private Keys to Transaction Clarity
Crypto wallet security has become a top priority for the industry as attackers increasingly target users rather than blockchain protocols. According to Ledger, over $1 billion was stolen through crypto-related security incidents in the first few months of 2026.
The rise of sophisticated attacks, including state-sponsored hacking, malware, and social engineering, has led to a shift in emphasis on clear signing, hardware-based approvals, AI risks, and more advanced protection against phishing. Blind signing remains a particular problem, allowing malicious websites to make dangerous authorizations appear harmless.
Clear signing, which displays transaction details in a human-readable format before approval, is becoming increasingly important. The Ethereum Foundation introduced a Clear Signing standard in May 2026 with support from wallet providers including Ledger.
