Cryptocurrency Legislation Fails Amid Banking Lobby Opposition and Presidential Complications
Patrick Witt, a White House cryptocurrency advisor, has criticized Democrats for turning President Donald Trump's cryptocurrency earnings into a 'political issue'.
The CLARITY Act, which aimed to regulate digital assets and provide unprecedented ethics provisions for federal officials, was scuttled due to opposition from both parties.
Witt pointed out that the president agreed to ban all federal officials from issuing or sponsoring digital assets and either divest significant cryptocurrency holdings or place them in a blind trust.
The banking lobby's aggressive opposition to provisions allowing third-party cryptocurrency platforms to offer rewards on stablecoin holdings also contributed to the bill's failure, Witt said.
