Cryptocurrency Market Sees Dramatic Shift in Trader Positioning After Black Friday Liquidation
The crypto market is showing notable changes in trader positioning following last Friday's significant liquidation event. Approximately $20 billion in positions were eliminated as Bitcoin moved 17% within hours, now referred to as 'Black Friday.' The sell-off occurred after President Trump announced a 100% tariff on all Chinese products in response to Beijing's restriction on rare mineral exports.
Sean Dawson, head of research at on-chain options platform Derive, noted the scale of the event. 'Friday's meltdown was the most dramatic in crypto history, with nearly $19 billion in liquidations across the market,' he stated.
Data shows traders are adjusting their positions, with notable interest appearing in various strike prices at $115,000 and $95,000 for BTC, and $4,000 and $3,600 for ETH. This reflects traders' positioning for different market scenarios.
Bitcoin is up 4.4% over the past 24 hours, with Bittensor's 42% gain leading the recovery among the top 50 altcoins. The weekend rebound has brought renewed activity to the market.
