Cryptocurrency Market Update: Bitcoin Down 13%, Ether Falls 19%
The market performance of Bitcoin (BTC) and other major cryptocurrencies has been under scrutiny in recent weeks. According to the latest data, Bitcoin is down approximately 13% year-to-date, while Ether has fallen roughly 19%. XRP, on the other hand, has dropped around 29% since January.
Bitcoin's volatility has been a topic of discussion among investors, with some arguing that it's highly resilient due to innovation in product management. The cryptocurrency's price was down 1.5% this week, although it experienced a broader rebound. BTC currently sits about 38% below its October record high.
Ether (ETH) is the native cryptocurrency of the Ethereum blockchain platform, which launched in July 2015. Despite being the newest of the three assets discussed, Ether has the second-largest market share. ETH's closing price was down 1% this week and is currently roughly 62% below its record close from August.
XRP (Ripple) was launched in 2012 and held a significant market share until newer tokens entered the market. XRP's closing price was down 7% this week, with the asset now sitting about 63% below its October record high.
