The Better Business Bureau (BBB) has identified several scams targeting different age groups, with investment and cryptocurrency scams being a top concern across all demographics. According to Michele Mason from the BBB, social media and unexpected text messages are playing a major role in these scams.

For people aged 18-34, employment scams are the number one scam, followed by investment and cryptocurrency scams, and online shopping scams. For those between 35-64, investment and cryptocurrency scams move to the top of the list. Meanwhile, for individuals aged 65 and older, investment and cryptocurrency scams are also number one, followed by romance scams and online shopping scams.

Mason notes that there is a cryptocurrency element in many employment scams, particularly those involving unexpected text messages about job opportunities. She advises people to be cautious of online shopping scams, which often begin with an initial purchase, followed by red flags such as unreachable companies or merchandise not matching the advertisement.
