CryptoTotem Research Reveals Gaps in KYC and AML Documentation for European Crypto Firms
CryptoTotem Research has conducted a study on 19 compliance service providers linked to the European Union, focusing on Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) solutions for Crypto-Asset Service Providers (CASP). The research, updated as of September 29, 2026, reveals that while many providers offer tools like transaction monitoring and blockchain analysis, detailed documentation on evidence export and data handling remains scarce.
The study found that transaction monitoring and blockchain analysis are the most common services, each offered by 12 of the 19 providers. The Travel Rule, which requires the exchange of information on transaction parties, is supported by seven providers. However, only two providers documented how they export evidence, and just one provided details on data treatment.
The research highlights the importance of understanding how compliance tools operate, especially as the MiCA regulation's transitional period for CASP ended on July 1, 2026. The study emphasizes that acquiring compliance solutions requires verifying how they align with current and upcoming regulatory obligations, such as the EU's Anti-Money Laundering Regulation (AMLR), which will apply from July 10, 2027.
CryptoTotem Research clarifies that the study does not measure market share or product effectiveness but aims to identify gaps in public documentation that could hinder informed decision-making by CASP. The findings underscore the need for providers to offer more transparent and operational details to help clients assess and implement compliance solutions effectively.
