A Republican senator in the US has sparked controversy by calling for an investigation into President Donald Trump's family business dealings, particularly those related to cryptocurrency.
Senator John Curtis from Utah sent a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee chair and ranking Democrat, citing concerns over potential corruption and favoritism. He specifically mentioned that he wants subpoenas issued for Donald Trump Jr. and Hunter Biden, both sons of US presidents, to investigate their business dealings abroad.
Curtis pointed out the discrepancy between a 'gift', like a toaster at a wedding, and a lavish private island party paid for by a Putin-connected oligarch, highlighting that the latter raises red flags about potential corruption. He also noted that while Hunter Biden has testified under oath to Congress, Trump Jr. has not.
The senator's demand comes as a crucial time for crypto regulation policy, with the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act recently failing to secure enough votes from Democrats. The bill aimed to provide market structure regulations in the industry.
