Cypherpunk Doubles Down on Zcash Mining with $33 Million Fleet
Cypherpunk Technologies has launched a significant zcash (ZEC) mining fleet in the US, marking a major milestone for the company. The operation, which is valued at $33.33 million, brings approximately 4.2 GSol/s of computing power to the Zcash network.
This represents about 18% of Zcash's total network hashrate, making Cypherpunk Mining the largest active zcash mining fleet in the world. The company acquired Z15 Pro mining machines and related hosting agreements through its new mining subsidiary.
Cypherpunk issued a pre-funded warrant to Winklevoss Treasury Investments as part of the deal, allowing the buyer to purchase 43.29 million Cypherpunk shares for $0.001 each. This gives investors another way to acquire ZEC, which is awarded to miners in exchange for processing transactions and securing the network.
The company's mining operation will help it work towards its goal of holding 5% of ZEC's supply, potentially at a lower cost than buying coins in the market. Kevin Zhang, who has experience building bitcoin (BTC) and ZEC mining operations in North America, will lead the operation as head of mining.
Investors will be watching Cypherpunk's ZEC output, costs, and warrant-related dilution after August 18, 2026, to gauge the success of this new venture. The company's financial position is increasingly tied to zcash's market price, security, and adoption.
