Dash Plunges 6% Amid Macro Risk-Off Conditions and Technical Overextension
Dash's price dropped 6% in a four-hour window, but it was not due to any specific event or news related to the cryptocurrency itself. The drop is attributed to a combination of factors including macro risk-off conditions and technical overextension.
The broader market backdrop on the same day was negative for risk assets, with Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh's speech being interpreted as hawkish, pushing the market-implied probability of a September rate hike to roughly two-thirds. This contributed to a global bond selloff and multi-year high yields on US Treasuries and other sovereign debt.
Dash was particularly vulnerable to this risk-off environment due to its recent price structure. It had broken out of a descending triangle with strong volume, pushing its price above key moving averages and support levels, which attracted momentum longs and social media attention. As the macro tide turned against it, Dash's price dropped sharply.
The drop was also influenced by derivatives and leverage being under stress across the market. A report highlighted that more than $116 million of crypto futures positions were liquidated in a single hour, with 24-hour liquidations totaling about $307 million, largely long positions that were forced out as prices moved against them.
