Dashjr Leaves Ocean Pool, Launches New Venture to Decentralize Mining
Bitcoin Core developer Luke Dashjr has left his role as chairman, chief technology officer, and director of Ocean Pool, a mining pool he co-founded in 2023. The departure was announced by Mummolin Inc., the parent company of Ocean, stating that Dashjr resigned by mutual agreement due to differences over the future direction of Bitcoin mining.
The split is linked to recent protocol developments, including the BIP-110 proposal, which aimed to restrict certain inscriptions on the network. Dashjr had been a vocal advocate for changes to Bitcoin's rules and was at the center of controversy surrounding the proposal earlier this year.
Ocean will continue operating as a transparent, non-custodial mining pool that allows miners to receive block rewards directly. In contrast, Convoy, a new venture founded by Dashjr, aims to decentralize Bitcoin mining further. The split leaves both ventures competing for miners who prioritize self-custody and transparency.
