DBS and Citi Smash Cross-Border Payment Times with Tokenized Deposits
DBS and Citi have made history by remitting US dollars from Singapore to New York in minutes, using tokenized deposits over Swift's Digital Ledger. This achievement marks a significant milestone in reducing cross-border payment times.
The transaction was settled on September 5th, which is a weekend, showcasing that always-on cross-border payments are now a reality.
DBS projects that Asia payments will hit $24 trillion by 2033, with half of finance leaders eyeing blockchain tools for liquidity and currency-risk management. This move is targeted at institutions operating across jurisdictions where faster settlement means suppliers and customers get quicker access to funds.
