Decentralized AI Community Rattled by Weekend Heist

A massive cryptocurrency heist has shaken the decentralized AI community after an attacker exploited three bridges in one weekend, draining $1.9 million from Fetch.ai and minting over 2.3 billion tokens across its sister projects NuNet and SingularityNET.

The attack, which occurred between Saturday and Sunday, saw the attacker drain 8.7 million FET from Fetch.ai's bridge, selling around $1.2 million worth of Ethereum in the process. The same attacker then exploited two other bridges, minting 400 million NTX on NuNet and 900 million AGIX, 500 million WMTx, and 500 million CGV on SingularityNET.

The attack resulted in a flood of counterfeit tokens hitting the markets, causing prices to plummet. The attacker was able to offload some of the tokens, but ultimately realized only around $1.9 million from the heist. The attacker is still holding onto approximately $16.77 million worth of cryptocurrency.

The Artificial Superintelligence Alliance, a loose federation of decentralized AI projects that share branding and infrastructure, has been left reeling from the attack. None of the affected projects have commented on how or if holders will be made whole.
