DefiLlama Delays Mobile App Launch Amid Phishing Threats on Apple Store

Share

DefiLlama, an analytics platform for decentralized finance protocols, delayed its mobile app launch due to phishing threats on Apple's App Store. According to founder 0xngmi, the team waited until all fake apps impersonating DefiLlama were removed before launching their own app.

The delay was caused by a wave of phishing apps that copied DefiLlama's name and branding, which were difficult to remove from the store. Apple only took action once DefiLlama provided concrete evidence of financial harm, such as draining a small crypto wallet.

This is not an isolated case; similar scams have targeted other crypto brands on Apple's App Store in 2024, including Rabby wallet and Curve Finance. In November 2023, a fake Ledger Live app on the Microsoft Store led to $588,000 in losses across 38 transactions.
