Democrats Set to Investigate Trump Pardons and Family Crypto Deals

Share

With Democrats securing control of the House of Representatives in the 2026 midterms, oversight of the Trump administration is set to intensify. Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin highlighted potential targets, including pardons issued by President Donald Trump, government contracting corruption, and the Trump family’s cryptocurrency dealings. These hearings are expected to deviate from routine proceedings, given the heightened partisanship witnessed during the second Trump administration.

The tension between congressional oversight and executive cooperation was evident during Attorney General Pam Bondi’s contentious Senate Judiciary Committee appearance in October 2025. Bondi’s refusal to answer questions and her personal attacks on senators underscored the challenges Congress faces in holding the executive branch accountable.

Historically, congressional oversight has been a cornerstone of American democracy, ensuring laws are faithfully executed. From early investigations like the 1790 probe into Robert Morris’s finances to the Watergate scandal and 9/11 intelligence failures, oversight has exposed corruption and driven reforms. However, its effectiveness hinges on cooperation from the branch under scrutiny, a dynamic likely to be tested under Democratic-led hearings.
