Democrats Turn on AI Industry Amid Growing Backlash and Ties to Wealth Creation
The Democratic Party is taking a hard stance against AI, launching new groups and pledges to counter what they see as the industry's influence. One such pledge is the Stop Bleeding the Future pledge, which commits candidates to refuse money from the most active AI industry PAC and condemn its efforts to stop commonsense AI laws.
The anti-AI push comes from a growing concern that wealthy job-destroyers are using their political access to put everybody at risk. This thinking is reflected in Sen. Bernie Sanders' 'people-versus-Silicon Valley approach', which has gained traction among Democrats.
Sanders was one of the first left-wing politicians to understand the backlash against AI, and he's seen it as a key issue on his 'Fight Oligarchy' tours. The Democratic Party is now seeing the benefits of this approach, with Senate Democrats sinking the Clarity Act, the top priority of the cryptocurrency industry for the last two years.
The crypto industry spent over $130 million on the 2024 elections to put friendly politicians in office, but this strategy may not work as well now that the president and his family have made more than $1 billion from crypto. As one Democratic strategist noted, 'voters don't give a f*ck about crypto'.
