Denmark's Spillemyndigheden Licence: A Thorough Vetting Process for Online Casino Operators
The Danish online casino and betting market has been regulated since 2012 when the Gambling Act came into force. The Spillemyndigheden licence, issued by the Danish Gambling Authority, is a permit to operate in the market for up to five years.

The regulator checks for technical requirements such as the use of a cryptographically secure random number generator with valid certification and the ability to connect to the SAFE system and transmit data via Tamper Token. The operator must also run real-time checks against the ROFUS self-exclusion register before allowing players to access games.
The licence costs DKK 480,600 for a first-time application, which is a combined betting and online casino licence. Renewing an existing licence costs noticeably less at DKK 137,300. The Danish state takes 28% of gross gaming revenue as tax, making it essential for operators to be financially sound.
