Deribit Options Expiry Sets Stage for Crypto Market Reset
A massive options expiry is set to take place on Deribit today, affecting over half of the derivatives exchange's total open interest. The event represents one of the largest structural resets in crypto history, with $27 billion in contracts expiring.
Bitcoin accounts for $23.6 billion of the expiring options, while Ethereum makes up $3.8 billion. The so-called 'max pain' levels sit near $95,000 for Bitcoin and $3,000 for Ethereum.
Rollover activity currently dominates the trading market as institutions shift positions to January contracts to mitigate risk. Analysts warn that post-expiry flows will matter more than price, advising traders to watch positioning.
