Derivatives Market for Bitcoin Surges Past $100 Billion
The derivatives market for Bitcoin has grown significantly, with over $100 billion in open exposure tied to its price. This is due to futures and options markets, which have seen a surge in activity.
Binance leads the way in futures trading, holding around $11.77 billion in open interest, or 20.89% of the market. CME comes second with 15.5% share.
In the options market, calls dominate, accounting for 60.74% of open interest. This represents a significant bullish sentiment in the market, but it's essential to note that options are also used for hedging and other strategies.
The most crowded area on Deribit is the September expiration, with contracts expiring around $70,000 to $100,000. However, the max pain metric shows that traders have positioned themselves below Bitcoin's current price of $81,273, particularly on Deribit at around $72,000.
