DEX Spot Volume Hits Record 24% of CEX Trading in July
The decentralized exchange (DEX) spot volume reached a record 24% of centralized exchange (CEX) trading in July 2026, marking its highest recorded share since 2019. This milestone demonstrates the growing trend towards on-chain trading, where users are increasingly opting for DEXs over CEXs.
The ratio rose even as monthly DEX turnover fell 26%, showing relative gains during weaker market activity. Solana led 30-day DEX trading with $49.86 billion in volume, surpassing BNB Chain, Ethereum, and Base combined.
While decentralized platforms are gaining ground, they still trail behind CEXs in terms of overall liquidity, with the latter offering fiat services, customer support, and deeper markets for major cryptocurrency pairs.
