DOGE-1 Mission Launches as Dogecoin Price Slides Amid Broader Crypto Weakness
The DOGE-1 mission is set to launch on September 14 from Kennedy Space Center in Florida, marking the first space mission funded entirely with Dogecoin. The mission involves a 40-kilogram satellite built by Geometric Energy Corporation that will fly as a rideshare payload aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 and orbit the Moon.
The DOGE-1 mission has faced repeated delays over the past two years, but it is now on track to launch with Dogecoin funding. In April 2019, Elon Musk tweeted that Dogecoin was his favorite cryptocurrency, which preceded a significant price increase.
Despite the attention surrounding the mission, Dogecoin's price has fallen to near $0.08. The broader crypto market has weakened, with Bitcoin falling below $76,000 and major altcoins declining in value. Analysts are watching the $0.173 level as a key recovery point for Dogecoin.
