DOGE Surges 14% Amid Market-Wide Short Squeeze
Dogecoin surged 14% on September 21 without any obvious catalyst behind it. Unlike previous rallies, this time there was no Elon Musk post or major announcement that triggered the move.
Instead, Dogecoin benefited from a market-wide short squeeze that liquidated approximately $795 million of leveraged crypto positions, with over 84% of those being bearish bets. Bitcoin's rally was also a key driver, climbing to above $85,000 and eventually trading beyond $86,000.
The largest individual liquidation reported during the session was an approximately $11.3 million BTC-USDT position on Binance, while Dogecoin showed its own derivatives build-up with futures open interest increasing 15% and four large addresses opening long positions totaling 78.2 million DOGE.
