Dogechain Shutdown Leaves Millions of DOGE in Limbo

Dogechain, an Ethereum-compatible network for Dogecoin, continued producing blocks after its announced shutdown on August 8. The project-run bridge page also remained online, but with unclear implications for users' assets.

The official RPC endpoint showed block production continuing even past the noon UTC deadline, with a timestamp of 12:01:52 UTC on block 62,578,578. This raises questions about the recovery process for stranded DOGE.

According to Dogechain's bridge documentation, an administrator-mediated process involving signatures and a transfer service is required for asset recovery. However, continued block production does not guarantee that this process can still be executed.

The QuickSwap route on Polygon chain ID 137 remained available, redirecting users away from the Dogechain interface. This limits users' ability to manage their remaining assets, leaving them in limbo.
