Dogecoin Expands into Smart Contracts with Launch of DogeOS Testnet
Dogecoin is expanding into smart contracts with the launch of its testnet, DogeOS. This new application layer uses zero-knowledge rollups to support EVM-compatible smart contracts and will allow developers to build decentralized applications on Dogecoin.
The testnet also introduces DOGE as the native token for transaction fees on the network. The project aims to target various use cases, including trading, lending, stablecoins, prediction markets, and blockchain games.
DogeOS plans to settle application state back to the Dogecoin network but does not currently verify DogeOS zero-knowledge proofs directly. This represents an important development stage before a potential mainnet launch.
