Dogecoin Trapped at $0.098 as Leverage Market Looms
The price of Dogecoin has been stuck at around $0.0973 on Wednesday midday, just below the zone where it has been struggling to break through for days. This zone sits at $0.098, and it's not a line drawn on a chart but an accumulation of purchases: roughly 28 billion DOGE changed hands there in the past.
Investors who bought in that area and have been underwater since tend to sell as soon as they're back at breakeven, which slows down the price. A breakout above $0.098 rarely succeeds on the first attempt and almost never without elevated trading volume.
The leverage market is six times the size of the spot market, with CoinGlass reporting Dogecoin futures worth about $1.48 billion traded over 24 hours. This means that the price you see on an exchange arises largely from bets on the price, not actual purchases and sales.
Whales are long three to one, according to data from Binance, Bybit, and OKX, but position data from individual exchanges shows only a slice of the market's fragility. ETF inflows in September have also been significant, with a movement among American Dogecoin funds.
