Dogecoin Unleashes Developer Power with Public Testnet Launch
Dogecoin (DOGE) has been gaining new utility as DogeOS launches its public testnet, giving developers an EVM-compatible environment to build finance, gaming, and consumer applications.
The application layer is designed to let developers build on top of Dogecoin without altering the underlying Layer-1 network. This allows for a range of projects, including Barkswap (a liquidity engine), Superposition Finance (a lending protocol), Derps (a perpetual exchange), Split Markets (an options platform), and USDoge (a CDP-based stablecoin).
DogeOS founder Jordan Jefferson described the teams joining this ecosystem as 'tackling the pieces DOGE has been missing,' including markets, financial tools, games, and more ways to use Dogecoin.
Timothy Stebbing, director of the Dogecoin Foundation, noted that DogeOS could become a 'springboard' for new utility development and potentially serve as a gateway for the next 100 startups building around Dogecoin. He emphasized that Dogecoin's Layer 1 should remain simple while additional functionality is built above it.
