DogeOS Brings DeFi and Smart Contracts to Dogecoin
DogeOS, a project backed by the Dogecoin Foundation, has launched a public testnet to bring Ethereum-compatible smart contracts and decentralized finance applications to Dogecoin. This will enable DOGE holders to use their cryptocurrency for more than just payments and speculation.
The testnet, which went live on September 30, provides an EVM-compatible environment for developers to build and test applications using DOGE for transaction fees. DogeOS aims to support trading, lending, stablecoins, prediction markets, games, and other consumer applications.
Several projects are already working on the ecosystem, including Barkswap, Superposition Finance, Derps, and Split Markets. These projects aim to bring advanced financial applications to Dogecoin without altering its underlying ledger.
The Dogecoin Foundation has presented DogeOS as a way to add utility to the Dogecoin network while keeping its base layer unchanged. The project's founder, Jordan Jefferson, said the testnet gives developers a place to turn Dogecoin-related ideas into working applications.
